generally women's and seniors balls will be a softer compression, a standard mens ball is generally 90 compression as apposed to a Lady's ball being 70-80 compression. the less compression stops the ball feeling like you're hitting a rock. the higher the compression the higher the club head speed needed to compress the cover of the golf ball to achieve maximum distance.

There are very few companies that make a "ladies" golf ball. However, there are brands like "MC Lady" that alter the core of the golf ball to help performance. It's common sense that most men will have a harder swing than that of a woman. So the golf balls core will consist of harder material. The sizes of all golf balls are created to standard and legal size, so the size is not changed or the ball would be "illegal" in official match play. Back to the point however, if you would compare a normal Titleist or Nike golf ball to that of an MC Lady golf ball, the cores are different. In the Titleist and Nike golf balls, the cores are somewhat softer to enhance roll or the ability to stick to greens. An MC Lady golf ball is harder to compensate for the softer lady swing and increases distance.

wow... alot of answers, and most are wrong.
a ladies golf ball compresses more meaning more "pop" of the club face for slower swing speeds. around 80 to 90 compression
a mens golf ball has a higher compression around 90 to 100.
the more less pounds it takes to compress a ball the farther it goes up untill a certain point, when the ball compresses so much you start to loose distance.
ex.
topflite is a verry hard golf ball to compress, but you hit it far, but because it doesnt compress much, you wont have as much control over the ball.
pro V1 is a soft outer core (made of rubber bands) then a hard center core. which makes it feel soft, but you hit it far. thats why it cost 4 dollars a ball.
hope i helped you!

most people think there isnt any difference, but they are all wrong. the truth is, physically, its impossible for women to hit as far as men, no matter what you think. so they made womens golf balls which are lighter and go farther(we need all the chances we can get) so mainly it just goes farther. and if youre buying golf balls, be sure to look and it says "ladies" or has a pink bow for breast cancer.

ladies are a little smaller and harder. Couple years ago guys would use lady precept for longer drivers but now with tech it doesnt make much difference.

well anyone can use any kind of golf ball but I'm suspecting that womens' golf balls are softer, and most of them are colored. I'd go with the ball: Titleist new PROV1x or ProV1

My guees would be that it has to do with compression. ladies swing at a lowed speen than men so the ball will compress less

They have more bounce and are designed for those who have a softer swing.
